sustainable energy sources in the 1970′s?
Carter started and ethanol program which Reagan promptly stopped after Carter’s defeat. Reagan, to make a statement about which direction we would go, removed the solar panels from the White House roof when elected.
More intelligent societies like German who refuse to be lead my the nose by their corporate masters are light years ahead of us in solar technology.
If we don’t wake up, we will be using solar and wind technology purchased from the Chinese.
Most Americans aren’t smart enough to realize that we are sacrificing our future, our economy and our environment for the sake of oil companies.
Ethanol costs more than twice what gasoline does and causes food prices to rise because there being depleted for fuel. What we should do is tap our own vast resources of oil which is several times that of the middle east. Solar panels are a joke at best they are a supplemental energy source.
Like what Einstein? You liberals don’t want oil, coal, nuclear energy. Wtf Kennedy didn’t want wind turbines to spoil his yatching off Hyannis. What do you want? gerbils running in little wheels?

The American people should have stopped listening to the irrational utopian Carter as soon as he expressed any interest in running for President Of The United States….but humans are humans…..foolish…..

Absolutely yes.
Why don’t we do what Germany does about energy?
In Germany about every 3rd house is covered with solar panels. The Germans passed a law that the bank has to offer a mortgage, a ten year mortgage, on installation of solar power — guaranteed by the government. If you put solar panels on your house, the power company has to buy the electricity back at 8 times market rate (about what it would cost if the power company was going to build a new nuclear reactor or a new coal-fired reactor).

Solar panels and electric cars. Ever hear of a solar panel spill destroying an ecosystem? Thought not.

Liberal propaganda aside, there is NO cure all for our energy dependence.
Solar, wind, hydro or whatever other green sources of energy are not currently practical. If it isn’t practical, it isn’t marketable. Therefore it can not be sold. Or controlled, but that’s a separate issue.
Nuclear is a viable option for electricity and could probably completely eliminate the need for electrical energy from coal sources. An excellent idea that is blocked at EVERY opportunity by leftists. Which is weird because their holy grail of France uses nuclear power extensively – but again I digress.
Do I believe we should get off the "oil standard" not only for energy but for our economy. Yes. Without hesitation yes. But the reality is that we have nothing to take its place (at least officially) right now. What you are suggesting would absolutely, irrevocably destroy the worlds economy.
Your idea of solar simply won’t work at this time. It’s not efficient and it’s too expensive. We need to create a new paradigm to accomplish those goals. A good first step would to be for the government to stop inhibiting creativity and punishing success. Who is going to go out on a limb to create something that will become the new standard for the worlds entire economy simply to be taxed to death?
Right now, unfortunately, we need to struggle along until R&D catches up with what we should be doing. But until it does, we’re kinda stuck and quitting "cold turkey" so to speak simply isn’t realistic.
FYI, there is a theory out there that oil IS a renewable energy source and that the earth constantly creates it as a natural lubricant. I believe it’s called "abiotic" or something like that if you’re interested. They cite the "dried" out Russian oil fields that 25 years later are producing at historic rates as evidence.

Only Consumers can change the market of anything.
For example, Park your car and tell the Oil Companies to change. once they stop making money selling oil they will add more ethanol.
Also be aware that any alcohol based fuel is very hard on rubber and plastic.
So, if we park our cars and develop better materials and processes needed to make Ethanol truly practical it will happen.
On the subject of Solar Panels they are actually beginning to be cost effective and reliable unlike the ones formerly on the White House roof.
