R & S – How has religion made society a better place?

I would think there would be something astronomical if you compare Christians with a population of 2.1 billion and the scientist at barely 6 million. Can you name on thing you religious group did to make society a better place for all people? i.e. Science can be created for the polio vaccine, solar energy etc.

Oh yes that’s easy…

well there was the um….no that was science

plus the….oh no that actually killed all those people.

Can you come back to me?

    None.

Can anyone state a positive effect of religion that cannot be achieved by secular means? No you cannot.

Well, from an objective point of view, it has heavily influenced morality in Western society.

While atheists do live by ethical codes, religion has influenced morality, even though atheism could have accomplished the same goal just as easily.

@jesus: Terrible notions of English grammar and spelling aside, I would like to humbly point out that you are, in fact, quite wrong. In the future, please make sure that when you open your mouth, it will not forcibly project a large stream of sh*t. Sincerely, Brother Handcannon.

    Also, @jesus, please see:

    the Crusades
and all the other killers in the name of God

Edit: Thanks for changing your SN to a repeating "h" after I called you out, d*ck.

Edit 2: AND his answer was deleted. It seems I have rather wasted my time. Although it might keep imbeciles from posting on this question.

@Mystic: Please tell me you’re a troll. Otherwise I’ll have to rip you a new one in the form of prose.

@iThink: other side of that coin is the Dark Ages, staying strictly to the subjects of art, study, literacy rates, and free thought.

  6. Mystic says:

Religion had killed adulterous women by stoning them.
Religion had helped in population control by engaging in wars with other believers of god, causing death to young / old / and children.
Religion had justifiably discriminated homosexuals as they do not have a place in community.
Religion had helped to separate every individual not by cultures by belief in god.
Religion had helped the economy, with the construction of big churches, temples, mosque and synagogues at the expense of its followers.
Religion promised an everlasting life if you continously believe in the god, all you have to do is put your entire life, energy and faith in him. This science can not give, even if you waste your whole life studying it.

    @brother handcannon.. peace :)

Religion in itself hasn’t. People shape society. Keep in mind, society includes religious people.

Hmm it depends on the religion.. As different religions propagate different values. But the overarching purpose is to allow people to bond through similar values in life.
