The panel has a rating in watts (power) or amps(current). You need to match up the panel with what you are going to power. Right now solar powser is expensive, its cost about .14 cents a kilowatt hr. To set up a house to power a house it cost about .80. But the price is comeing down.Also it is law(federal i think) that utilites must buy what you send out on the grid. References :

It can provide enough energy for a house or as little energy for a lamp. It depends on how big it is.

It all depends in the panel u have for more information try finding a website tha obtains the info.
