Photosynthesis is used by plants and a semiconductor-based solar cell both harness solar energy. what are three ways these two systems are similar and three ways they are different?

Also what is Thermodynamics and how does it apply to each system?

Same
Absorb solar energy
Transform into useful from
Best oreinted perpendicular to suns rays

Different
chemical vs electrical
self produced vs factory produced
ridged vs fexable

Applicatiom of solar energy in a location & techonolgy, systems, effici… & the cost that are involve?

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Your "question" is a bit lacking, especially in the QUESTION part.

Solar power can be collected and used in a home, business, office. The cost depends on the size of the system. Perhaps you would like to re-state your question?

Can a housing society install solar energy system for electrification in the building?

Monday, February 1st, 2010

this is the better option for the elctricity and it will help u reduce u r bill also
but there are some problem occur for using the solar power
1) the generetors or instruments u need for the using solar power is very expensive
2) for solar power u need regular sunlight and it depends upon the sun position

but there are solutions also
1) for the first problem u will get the loan from the bank (personal opinion) and if u installing in society then it will be much easier
2) this problem ocures only 20 to 30 % in the whole year for that u can use ur regular source

think about it
plz try to install it
it is the better way to save our planate and our limited sources of the energy
we need to preserve it

how would i make a solar system generate energy from the heat of the sun?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

The earth does it in several ways. One is that it traps the radiant energy and uses it to heat the earth. Plants trap the solar energy and convert it to sugars that are used by higher life forms. The same thing for plankton and fish.

Then, there are the direct methods that man can use to create other forms of energy. He can use solar cells to create electricity. He can focus the suns rays and heat with them. And, he can take advantage of the other energy systems that are driven indirectly by the sun like wind and hydro-electric.

So, the true answer to your question lies in what you really meant by ‘generate energy from the heat of the sun’.

Good rebuttal with Solar Energy Disadvantages?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Here are some Solar Energy Disadvantages.
I am on the good side in a debate discussing pros and cons of solar energy.
So i need some good facts to cover up these disadvantages!! thankksss

- The initial cost is the main disadvantage of installing a solar energy system, largely because of the high cost of the semi-conducting materials used in building one.

- The cost of solar energy is also high compared to non-renewable utility-supplied electricity. As energy shortages are becoming more common, solar energy is becoming more price-competitive.

- Solar panels require quite a large area for installation to achieve a good level of efficiency.

- The efficiency of the system also relies on the location of the sun, although this problem can be overcome with the installation of certain components.

Initial cost- with the state rebates, renewable energy credit system, and federal tax credits, the system will pay for itself in 4 to 8 years depending on what state you live in. Where else could an investment pay for itself in 4 years?

Large area- you don’t need a system that will offset your entire electric usage. You want a system in conjunction with renewable energy credits and electric savings, will offset your entire electric bill.

Location- actually, the earth revolves around the sun. If you don’t have southern facing roof space, you can mount a system in the ground. If that’s not an option, you’re siht out of luck.

If you decide that you want to use an off grid system, a system that uses batteries, you will not be able to receive state rebates and sell excess electricity back to the utility company.

solar energy commercial on the science channel……

its was for the powersave solar home energy system. Does anyone know the web addy or #??
Hannah’s Grandpa – Thank you very much but that’s actually not it. It was basically a home system on a much smaller scale that a company was selling.

This link will take you to the you tube commercial.

What functional role does an atmosphere, its life forms and evolution, provide in a Solar System (of Energy)?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

To live and die perhaps….?
Just a thought, ….
It just seems strange that an atmosphere has emerged within this system…..
Is there a closer link between planets and suns that we haven’t yet considered?

Well, I’m still not sure what you’re asking, but let me narrate a bit and see if I stumble on what you wanted.

There is a systems theory. Systems move toward greater complexity and diversity. Therefore, you have rocks/minerals. They don’t require much and don’t do much energy conversion. At some point, we got some energy introduced into a mineral and chemical world that created more complex molecules. The molecules then take more resources. Eventually molecules that can take more resources thrive more. Somewhere in there, the system develops something novel like DNA which allows its molecules to take up more resources than the other molecules, and then we get cells and move on our way up the evolutionary ladder, always favoring systems that have a strategy for more efficient energy use, from humans who have intellect and history and technology to cockroaches that maximize fertility and speed and other factors to offset their relatively lower dexterity and intelligence.

The atmosphere comes about when somewhere in the evolution of a planet like ours, some mutant cell somewhere decides that fixing the plentiful (from volcanic eruptions, for example) carbon dioxide and water and using that as an energy source and producing sugar (stored energy) and oxygen. Then some other mutant cell decides that it would be neat to enter into a symbiotic relationship with the plant cells and use their sugar and oxygen to make more water and carbon dioxide for them.

The rest of your question sounds philosophical. I couldn’t tell you how a solar system feels about having life forms and planets with atmospheres. Stars have a life cycle too that is independent of any orbiting planets for the most part. They burn hydrogen and then helium and then start to die out into various forms, depending on their initial size/mass.

I hope this helps.

if solar energy can run the space station ,why can’t it power your home?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

with the high cost of energy,$300.00 a month light bills and natural gas prices for the homes in the winter time going through the roof, why shouldn’t people be able to buy solar energy systems at an affordable price.Only the people who can afford to pay the high cost of heating an air conditioning can afford solar energy.Who and what is keeping this price of this technology out of the hands of the average person ? Why is the price so high ?If the price was lower more people would buy it and they still could make lots of money because of the large numbers of sales. It would also save a larger value of natural gas for future use in other places.
Well ,sorry to inform you ,but anybody and everybody and his little brother knows that there is no way to hookup utilities to the space station. In this age of people’s exposure to high technology ,I looked for more answers that made sense.People who can afford it have already proven that it can work in homes so that isn’t what I am looking for in an answer. The biggest problem with solar energy is that it is too expensive for the average person to put into their homes. The heart of the question is ,What and who is keeping this technology from being used,The price of energy is sky high and we are useing it up.We need to save on energy/ natural gas and we need to cut down on the use of coal because of polutions.Cannon E and peter J,stop looking at the question as if you think its a stupid Question(its not) people asking Questions is the way all problems are solved.

You Absolutely completely can! The only limiting factor is the amount of energy your house uses. It would take 7 to 10 thousand dollars (which is not a huge expense if your building a home) to make enough power to run an average home.

But if your willing to make a few minor adjustments to your lifestyle, you can be extremely efficient and get buy on just a few 75 watt panels.

Where can I find a good solar energy broker that knows several solar dealers in Texas. I need expert advice.?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

I am buying a solar system for my house but want to buy the best solar energy equipment for the price. I also want to hire a company that uses state of the art technology and knows what they are doing. I also don’t want to pay double what it may cost. This is why I need an expert.

Sorry, I don’t know your area, and wouldn’t qualify as an expert. I can comment on the area I live in, though. The quality of the work I’ve seen from multiple installers has been uniformly high. I haven’t seen a bad one, yet. I have seen some that are overkill, using higher quality or rating parts than necessary. The only difference seems to be price. The lowest price I’ve seen is $20k for a 4 kW system, BEFORE all rebates and incentives. $25-30k is more typical.

Quotes are usually free, so what you can do is invite everyone you can find to come over to your house and bid. Also, see if they have any references locally – a system they installed that you can go look at. Then go, and ask the homeowner whether that company had any problems. If you end up with bids for all different sizes and kinds of systems, then choose what you want, and ask everyone to bid again, to what you specify.

Where can I learn all about installing a solar system for the home to start my own business in Cairns, AU?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I would like to learn all about installing a solar system for the home to start my own business in Cairns, AU.

I would really like to get hands on experience ordering and installing solar energy and wind systems. I have no idea where to start. I would be happy to go to a school to learn everything that I need to know so that I can start my own green energy business.

Thank you!

I lost my job 8 months ago, but I’ve finally found something I can do at home to make some exta money to pay the bills. By no means am I making as much as my previous job, but every dollar helps. Try it yourself. http://www.americaschoicetoday.com/Work-At-Home.html
