Where can I find a periodical on solar energy on the internet?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I’m writing an essay on solar energy, and I need atleast one source from a periodical about solar energy. I can’t really find good periodicals, but I don’t have access to my library at the moment. Are there any good periodicals on solar energy that can be found online and give decent information about it so I can finish my essay? Thanks.

What do u think of this idea to make society go GREEN-ER ? clever ? dumb ? laughable ? feasible ? bleh ?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I ask this because I have an idea which could work, but would cost £££’s heh.

Green-Robo-Cops. Thats essentially the idea. upright ‘public sanitation’ law enforcers, designed to move on ground (and in future by air, using jet-packs) via a series of wheels rotating against a belt. It can spin around 360 and reach speeds of up to 45mph (60mph in emergencies where it must pursue occupants of a vehicle).

Green-Robo-Cops will be about 5 foot tall and will be equipped with a highly improved (self updating) version of the current ’sat nav’ technology. They will also be able to rely on night vision as well as thermal imaging detection, facial recognition software (feedbacks all this data to a mainframe server held at one of the MI6 buildings) and will be capable of being in operation 24/7 365. It’s solar powered Energy Cell will boast a whopping 500% power storage, so that it can do its job for one whole year non stop, always heading back to the green-cop station for re-charging.

The idea is simple if you’re not quite on the same page. Want a packet of crisps or a banana but don’t want to walk around to locate the nearest public bin ? go ahead, shove that empty packet of crisps behind that bush and hurl that banana skin over that fence. Nobodies looking. HAH! Robo-Green-Cop is!

And so, it approaches you peacefuly at a gentle speed of 3mph with its eyes flashing red. And in a soothing voice it kindly urges you to pick up your rubbish and dispose of it in a bin. If you fail to comply it will ask again politely. Fail to comply again and a cylindrical arm with claws ejects outwards and it will swing it repeatedly at your un-sanitary body. If you run it will chase you and fire a web to trap you. It will then drag you to the nearest police station where you will pay a hefty fine of £1000.

If you think you can outwit it in a car, think again. Capable of reaching speeds of up to 60mph on public roads , 0-60 in under 5 seconds, upon reaching the side of your moving vehicle it will fire spikes into your tyres rendering your vehicle obsolute for the road.

I think the time has come where human police officers should become intelligence law enforcers, and be safe from the barbarism currently on our streets. You can’t kill a robot , and neither can you bribe nor intimidate one.

What do you reckon then, a good idea ?

I think as a tax payer, I would LOATH to pay for such things. I would also HATE to live in a society which had such things. Have all children been properly fed, clothed, educated, loved/nurtured, and received proper medical/dental care, before a single penny was put into such robots (that would be my attitude)?

However….I think you are highly creative, and imaginative!!! I think you should write sci-fi books! Possibly you could set aside some of your earnings for parks that provided lovely walking areas for humans, and habitats for wildlife. Don’t stop using your imagination….you’re very clever.

What do we need to produce 5 kW of solar Energy or Wind energy?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I’m talking about the items needed and the required quantiy (height of the turbines, surface of the panels…)

As far as wind the amount of blade area you will need will vary with the wind speed and type of rotor used. Solar you can figure 75 watts per square foot (100% efficiency) between 10am to 2PM from late April to mid August assuming you live near the I90. South of I 90 more energy. North less. If you are making electricity assume 5% efficiency. That means you will require 1500 square feet to obtain 5KW for 4 hours per day.

Where can I find info on how much money the federal govt spent on using solar energy tech. for Fed. buildings?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Would like to know how much $ is reserved/set aside by Fed Govt to use solar energy tech for some Federal buildings – also how much money is being spent by Fed Govt on using non-solar air conditioning technology (traditional a/c technology)

That is going to take some digging with google. Using strings like "u.s. government solar energy use" you will turn up links like:

http://www.gsa.gov/Portal/gsa/ep/contentView.do?pageTypeId=8169&channelId=-18801&P=XAE&contentId=11779&contentType=GSA_BASIC

and this:

http://www.solarbuzz.com/News/Newsgovt.htm

So the information is out there, but it appears there is a not a single compendium site that lists all federal solar energy uses. Therefore, it will be a Project to assemble it.

Good luck.

Should we all have a solar energy panel on the roof?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

just daylight andy not sunlight

If the government were really serious about getting the public to use renewable energy methods it would provide one for every household that wanted one.
Because it is not serious about this matter it is involved in a cosmetic exercise to make it look "green".
The truth is that many businesses are making a fortune out of green issues, but those really interested in renewable energy are not being assisted.

How much energy can solar panels make?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I read an article that said the avg. U.S. home uses 25kw of power a day. How many panels would be needed to make that much power and how would you store the energy made? Also, if anyone knows, how do you sell power back to the utility companies?

even though you might not have a home depot in your area, if you read the post it will give you most of the answers that you need.

What is the difference between thermal and solar energy?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I know that solar energy is energy from the sun converted into elctrical energy and all that great stuff, but if you heat a sheet of flashing copper, put it in the sun and it makes a little more energy than it did in the shade, is that thermal or solar energy

Solar energy is energy from the sun.

There are many forms of energy.
- Plants use photosysthesis to convert solar energy into chemical energy.
- Solar cells convert solar energy into electricity.
- Evaporated and condensed water, thermals, and winds convert solar energy to mechanical energy.
- Copper flashing, like most things sitting out in the sun, convert solar energy to heat.

So, its solar energy until it is absorbed by the copper, then it is thermal energy (heat)

I came accross a new, proven and tested home made wind power system and solar power system which eliminates our electricity bills. It was written by a Renewable energy enthusiasts Michael Harvey the diy called Earth4energy. You can get your copy to save energy and help environment while eliminating your power bills. Get it from here:

How to get into the solar energy field?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I am thinking about changing my career and be a salesman of solar energy electricity system. What kind of class I can take to become more knowelegeble? Or if I go back to college, which major should I be choose in order to get in this field?

You don’t need to go back to college, unless you want to become an engineer working on designing new solar systems. I would look for local solar installers and talk to them. If you live in the southwest US, California, New Jersey, Japan, Germany or Spain you might have a better chance because these are the largest markets for solar power.

Solar Power Energy grants in Andalusia Spain.?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I would like to obtain information about the availability / criteria for obtaining a grant for installing solar power energy to my home to reduce the costs of heating water. We live in Malaga Province (Axarquia region) of Andalucia, Spain.

Hello, I saw your question while I was looking for information on solar power. I had solar powered water in a previous house and found I never ran out of hot water. The SUR has a good feature on solar power this week, here is the link if you don’t have the paper.
